Smith & Sheth Syrah 2017 Heretaunga, Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay
Aromas of sweet meats and dark raspberries, sweet oak and toasty wood spices of clove and vanilla, no mistaking the seam of pepper, a steely almost haunting mineral line of stones then old roses then violets. Delicious on the palate with great texture, grip and drive. Dry, toasty, fruity and spicy with plenty of fine to chalky to dusty wood tannins and an equal measure of acidity frame the fruit and spice flavours well. The finish is finer with dark cherry and bottle development moments. A lovely wine that is developing nicely and will continue to do so over the coming 1 - 3 years. Decant for service if drinking today. Will offer great drinking through 2026.
