Bushmere Estate Montepulciano 2020, Gisborne

I’m really impressed with the bouquet and palate of the wine - aromas and flavours of roasted dark plums and boysenberry compote, there’s a mix of spices and baked stone earthy qualities alongside an earth-smoke and bitter chocolate cocoa - like core. Taut and youthful with old yet not overdone tannins, plenty of acidity and youthful energy. Well made and drinking well now with high protein food or on its own from 2026 through 2034.
