Georges Road Winemakers Reserve Cuvée 43 Syrah 2016, Waipara

Quite the captivating bouquet with smoky brown spices, red peppercorn and olives, clove and bacon then dark berries, herbs, cocoa and compote. On the palate - dry, firm, bold and youthful. Flavours reflect the nose with a firm texture and youthful vigor. Tannins are quite bold, core of fruit is a little overpowered by the oak and smoky wood layers, but the wine is still youthful so I expect this will come right over the coming 1 - 2 years. I like the peppercorn and dark spice flavours, medium+ acidity and lengthy, intriguing finish. Decant for service. Best enjoyed with food - a big flavourful winter roast loaded with fresh herbs.
