Prim Organica Cognac (Amursky Proryv) VSOP, Primorsky, Russia

Mid to dark amber in colour and hue, very polished leads to a bouquet of lifted spirit, a mix of apricot and salty minerals, nectarine and roasted nut, some almond and light fusel suggestions. Complex and very interesting, a youthful bouquet with a gentle presence of wood. Nest - this brandy packs quite a punch, as the heat and power begin to subside the flavours of yellow stone fruits and barrel ageing begin to become the core, as well a spice quality. Cut with some Antipodes Water the bouquet shows more polish and style, a bit more like a French Brandy. The texture is smoother and a little softer, the flavours remain the same. This brandy is my very first from Russia, so I have no comparison other than French, American, South African and others. I am hoping the producer has some of the same brandy in barrel that is twenty years older, it would be nice to see how it matures when stored for linger in wood. Warm and generous with good length.
