An excellent bouquet of dark berry fruits and barrel spices, violets and baked nut, lees and clay earth qualities. A full-bodied wine touches the palate with firm tannins and a core of dark berry fruit flavours. Dark chocolate and a touch of marmite, black berry and roasted plums, vanilla and sweet clove. A lovely example with excellent mouthfeel and finish. Best drinking from 2025 through 2034+.

Who is Dr. John you ask - well he John’s father Dr John Loughlin, an ophthalmologist, who developed and owned Waimarama Estate Winery. My wife and I met Dr John in the early days of Wiamarama Estate. A gentleman, great personality, passion for wine and probably the cleanest winery I have ever seen. RIP Dr. John, we remember you well (1930-2004).
