Tantalus Cachette Reserve Chardonnay 2020, Waiheke Island

I think it’s a good idea to decant a Chardonnay of this style and caliber. Aromas and flavours are bold and expressive, there’s no mistaking the winemaking style with aromas of baked stone fruits and orange, red apple flesh and pineapple. The oak does make itself known early with impact and spice, some smoke and youthful energy. The fruit does soak all this up though. What I noticed on day one with a boubon barrel oak reminder has faded on day two, though not totally, a wine that does need some cellar time. Well made, dry, full-bodied, plenty of fruit and wood flavours, roasted nut and baking spice attributes. Best drinking from 2025 through 2033+.
