Tantalus Voilé Reserve Syrah 2016, Waiheke Island

Bold, toasty, smoky and packed with aromas of dark berries and roast red berry fruits, chocolate and coffee bean. No mistaking the barrel scents of clove and baking spices, a light dried herb quality then dry stone earthy quality. Warm, fruity and oaky on the palate with fruit and wood flavours and cocoa that mirror the nose. On the third taste natural pepper and spice begins to layer in with firm tannins and medium+ acidity add texture, weight and complexity. There’s a core of fruit to carry the wine’s signature of variety and meaty, fruit centric style. Drinkable today with decanting suggested, there’s longevity still evident as well. A wine that will continue to develop over the next few years with optimal drinking from 2022 through 2028+.
