Waiparore Single Vineyard Scarlett 2020, Tutukaka Coast, Northland
A red wine displaying a core of dark ruby and purple leading to a rim of the same with a light hued pink edge. Some red colour staining of the tears lead to aromas of cherries and plums, some northland boysenberry scents, kitchen spices and tobacco shop thoughts. There’s an earthy dry clay and vegetal complexity and an appealing violet note. On the palate - dry, weighty, ripe, fruity and spicy with flavours of fresh and sour red berries, plum and forest flowers. Firm-ish youthful tannins and plenty of acidity. Well balanced, youthful and quite tasty. A lovely wine ready for fresh red meat dishes served medium-rare, all sorts of cheeses or vegan pasta dishes. Best drinking from late mid 2022 through 2028+.
