Hãhã Merlot 2019, Hawkes Bay
Dark ruby and purple hues with a pink rim lead to aromas and flavours of dark plums and blackberries, some lees and a whisper of peppery spice then a mild vanilla toasty wood layer. On the palate - fresh, ripe, fruity and dry. The texture is youthful with a moderately firm bite yet contrasted with a core of fruit. The acid line carries flavours as well as keeping the palate engaged. A well made example, very youthful still, but will relax through the rest of 2020 with readiness for drinking from 2021 through 2023+.
