On Friday 7th May, we celebrated International Sauvignon Blanc Day. A couple of days prior, Appellation Marlborough Wine invited me to join Sophie Parker-Thomson MW, to taste through six Appellation Marlborough certified Sauvignon Blancs on Instagram Live. We chatted about the custodial responsibility we have for our land, the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc story and of course the differing styles of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc! You can watch the full video here.

Appellation Marlborough Wine was introduced and trademark registered in 2018 to safeguard Marlborough Wine, initially focussed on Sauvignon Blanc, whose purity and flavour intensity has earned it a phenomenal global reputation. “There’s no place in the world like Marlborough, and no wine in the world that tastes like ours, especially our Sauvignon Blanc. We believe that it is worth protecting.” I couldn’t agree more. It’s such a wonderful initiative, and we’re fortunate that we have the flexibility in New Zealand to create a direction like this for our wine sector.

Sophie and I tasted the following wines:

  • Blank Canvas Abstract Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

  • Astrolabe Taihoa Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

  • Whitehaven Greg Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

  • Greywacke Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

  • Caythorpe Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

  • Rapaura Springs Bull Paddock Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020
