Poppies Syrah 2024, Martinborough
Opaque and deeply purple core persistent to the rim where is becomes fuchsia. An intense and ripe fruited bouquet of black currant and blue plums, layers of smoke and dark earth, new leather and baking spices, violets and baked wild berry pie. A bouquet of complexity and intensity. On the palate equally complex and rather delicious, dark fruited as the bouquet suggests, lots of wild berries the blue fruits, then barrel spices and texture. An abundance of ripe polished tannins, a backbone of acidity and core red fruit flavours deliver a wine of substance and complexity, youthful and potential. The lengthy and persistent finish alone suggest a wine that should be cellared. Best drinking window from 2029 through 2040+.
