Akitu A1 Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago

A bouquet that speaks volumes about Pinot Noir, style, place and vintage. Aromas of savoury spices mixed with red berry fruits, a sandy rocky soil quality and crushed rose petals. Time in bottle has also captured synergies that can only appear as a wine like this is given the chance to show through its cellaring period. Complex and expressive. There’s also a whiff of alcohol in the initial scents. On the palate a wine of equal complexity and enticement, dried herbs and red berry fruits, an integrating layer of oak spices and bottle development complexities. Tannins are integrating well and acidity carries the flavours nicely throughout the palate. Dry and quite lengthy on the finish, a wine still developing yet has the elements to offer good drinking today along side richer weightier dishes. Best drinking from 2025 through 2032+. Warm on the finish.
