Trinity Hill 'Homage' Syrah 2021, Hawke's Bay
I have tasted this wine on several occasion previously, the most recent in May 2024. Notes on the wine then are below.
Today, January 11th, this wine remains fantastic and still one the most important expressions of Syrah Hawkes Bay and Trinity Hill. Congratulations to the wine making and viticulture teams, you have captured the expression of place and an important vintage for Aotearoa. Dark berries and barrel smoke, a fine mild pepper quality is encased within the violets and dark berries. A wine with polished, firm, ripe tannins and a backbone of acidity remains. This wine will continue to age well with best drinking from 2026 through 2036, a wine that defines vintage and producer, winemaker and the region. Congratulations. Buy.

May 2024 tasting
A bouquet of complexity, concentration and style. Dark spices and ripe thick-skinned red berry fruits, soft smoky barrel scents, violets, some chocolates and dried herb spice qualities. The concentration and complexities suggested in the bouquet are immediately apparent as the wine touches the palate. Layers of textures and core fruit flavours, barrel and soil smoke, echoes of place and complete focus. A complex and layered wine with immediately drinkability and cellar worthy attributes. Best drinking from 2026 through 2036+.
