Frenchmans Hill Estate Expatrius Syrah 2013, Waiheke Island
Complex and developing bouquet with aromas of red currant and violets, red peppercorn and ageing leather, clay, stone and black currant. Layers of wood smoke from barrel unfold quickly. There’s a meat quality both fresh and dried, spices and a natural synergy. Dry on the palate with integrated flavours and synergies from fruit, earth oak and age. There’s still tension from the tannins and acidity with a fine tannin structure held in place with a line of pristine acidity. Well made and ready to drink from 2023 through 2029.
