Church Road 1 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay
The varietal signature is immediate with a rich blackcurrant and blue plums core, aromas of crushed violets and barrel smoke, vanilla pod and baking spices are each quite powerful yet collectively seem well suited to the youthful energy and form the bouquet rather seamlessly. Equally expressive on the palate with core fruit flavours coating the palate first. Contrast comes from the textures of acidity and tannin adding structure and complexity. Tannins are volumous and fine grained, acidity is saline and refreshing. As the wine opens out it begins to reveal more oak chocolate, spice and fruit flavours. Graphite and pencil lead, crushed violets and stones come to mind. A delicious wine offering exceptional drinking. Keep in your cellar for now with best drinking from 2030 through 2050.
