Te Rere Reserve Chardonnay 2020, Waiheke Island

There’s a distinctive richness and personality to the bouquet with a mix of fresh stone fruits and grapefruit then a lees and sweet nut quality, spices of new barrel and some wood smoke. Plenty of weight and intensity as the wine touches the palate, flavours of apples and peach, white flesh stone fruit and brazil-nut butter quality. The oak stands out as the wine opens out on the palate and warms up - I expect this will settle in overtime. The fruit power alone offers contrast and flavours, tannins and acidity measure in well also. Overall a bold expression that could do with more development time in cellar. In the meantime, best enjoyed with food. Idea drinking window from late 2024 through 2030.
