Stormwood Syrah 2019, Waiheke Island

A lovely bouquet of varietal power, spice and earthy spices. Aromas suggest crumbled stones and black currant flesh, some savoury plum and pepper, toasty barrel spices and a touch of baked field mushroom. All these ideas are repeated as the wine touches the palate, there’s a savoury mineral energy, core fruit flavours dominate showing off the youthful of this wine and textures that set a decent foundation and youthful meaty power. There’s no mistaking the impact of oak as well, also meaning there’s cellar time ahead. A wine that could do with some cellar time offering best drinking from late 2024 through 2030.
