Tantalus Évoque Reserve 2017, Waiheke Island

I tasted this wine over 3 days to be sure about its continued longevity. This is a wine that will appeal to those who find integrated red blended styles that showcase moments of age and youth concurrently, this wine does that. Aromas and flavours of dark plums and leather, some dried fig and drying blackberry fruits. There’s moments of marmite and soy, baked bell-pepper, baking spices and oak smoke. Tannins are integrating well, acidity sits at medium. A wine that is balanced yet evolving as well. Best drinking is from day of purchase through 2027.

Side note: The cork broke in half easily when retrieving. I have removed many corks from wines over the last 35 years, you could say I am an expert at it. This wine was too young to have this happen. Be sure to store wines closed using cork on their side.
