The Boneline Sharkstone Chardonnay 2020, Waipara, North Canterbury
August 2022 tasting update.
Complex and enticing maintaining its bold and expressive bouquet, peach and vanilla, Brazil nut butter, grapefruit and with today’s tasting a distinctive core mineral quality. This wine is now starting to come into its own with a complete aroma and texture package. Fine tannins and youthful acid line showcase the core fruit and plush ripeness, judicious use of oak and mineral centric finish. A light reductive quality enhances the mineral and texture attributes. Delicious, complex and still developing. A wine best enjoyed from mid to late 2023 through 2030.

Full and richly scented bouquet with aromas of toasty barrel and ripe yellow orchard fruits. Brazil nut and vanilla, peach and toasty dried apple, fresh grapefruit and spice. Full-bodied with a satin cream texture, spice and warmth then flavours that mirror the oak and orchard fruits. Acidity and fine tannins form the foundation while fruit flavours coat the palate. Balanced, well made and still youthful developing complexities over the next 2-3 years. Best drinking from 2023 through 2030.
I tasted this wine again on April 20th - and find the wine to be equally intense in texture and flavour, complex and delicious. Because nothing had changed in terms of dvelopment, this gives me confidence that this wine will age and develop well into 2030 and hopefully beyond.
