Man O' War 'Ironclad' 2019 Red blend, Waiheke Island, Auckland
An intense and savouty bouquet with mineral and dried herb, dark red berries and cherry, a touch of mint and fine toasty spices of barrel. With some bottle age now in place the bouquet still suggest a young wine with primary red fruits then spices of oak at the core. On the palate - I like the influence of Cabernet France in the blend - it adds depth and complexity, a savoury layer, with the Merlot and other varieties adding plushness, energy and drive. Firm tannins and medium+ acid line, plenty of oak influence adding complexity and power. A lovely wine still ageing and harmonising. Best drinking from 2024 through 2030+.
