Hello + Boxer white spirits, Auckland
And now for something new, different and completely interesting……
This is gin, but not as you might know it:
The bouquet of this spirit leaps from the glass like a newly minted sauvignon blanc from marlborough does - it is very fragrant and bursting with scents of chilie and capsicum, asian cuisine and spicy sauce. There’s no juniper obvious. On the palate - the warmth and power of gin emerges with a coarse silk texture and personality. The flavours of jelapeno are immediate but without the burn and spice you’d expect. It is firm in texture on the finish, but also persistent and intriguing. Drinks well with soda or very dry lemonade. I actually liked it best with a canadian dry style ginerale (kinda personal, but works). It takes some getting used to, but after a few sips I think you’ll be intrguied and curious. 91 Points, Premium
Some back-ground is warranted: Boxer is a premium spirits brand of rotary evaporated distillates designed to sit outside of regular spirits categories and flavours. While each distillate is unique in concept and flavour, they are designed to equally be enjoyed over ice or with simple soda/tonic as they are integrated into an array of classic cocktails.
Our premiere spirit is a distillation of Jalapeño chiles. Using the rotary evaporator, the chemical capsaicin is removed. While the spirit is spicy on the nose, on the palate the spice is nonexistent and instead the green flavour of the pepper is able to come through without the adulteration of the spice in a surprising and fresh way.
Each bottle is hand painted, with a wooden stopper that has been burned in Japanese shou-sugi-ban style. With very limited runs and releases, each Boxer spirit is a premium bottle worth adding to any spirit aficionado's collection. We plan on releasing spirits on a monthly basis, a combination of permanent flavours (like the Jalapeño) and seasonal one-offs. Boxer will be available for purchase directly via online as well as through a very small selection of premium retailers, bars, and restaurants. SRP: $150. 700ml, 45% abv.
