Moko Hills Pinot Noir 2020, Bendigo, Central Otago
A single vineyard expression with only 1,700 bottles produced. The bouquet is varietal, fresh, savoury, youthful and mineral. Aromas and flavours of dries raspberry and red currant, there’s a savoury dired herb and spice layer accentuated by firm tannins and acidity. As the wine opens up in glass additonal flavours of preserved apple and cherry begin to emerge. Layers of oak and some fine wood spice add complexity and power.Well made, taut and youthful needing some to settle and knit together. Best drinking from late 2022 through 2028. I’m keen to revisit this wine in 12 months.

Winemaking: The fruit contained an even mix of three Pinot Noir clones – 777, 115 & UCD5. Fruit was spilt evenly into two fermenters – one containing 70% whole bunch, the other 100% de-stemmed. Fermented with natural yeast.
Kawarau Gecko
Each wine has a unique art piece, representing a group of species that embody the encapsulated characteristics of the wine. A homage to these species and a promise of protection.
The Pinot Noir label is encapsulated with the Kawarau Gecko (Woodworthia “Cromwell”). Representing the true soul of Moko Hills – the tie between the earth below and what we see above. The Mokomoko | Kawarau Gecko can often be seen basking on the warm schist outcrops during the peak of summer.
