LVCA Ludwig Vanneron Petit Frere 2018, Hawkes Bay
Aromas of barrel spices with a core of dark red berry fruits, there’s a soft floral layer layering finesse and a captivating charm. Complex, youthful and engaging bouquet overall. Plush and fruity as the wine hits the palate, but is almost immediately contrasted with tannins and acidity showcasing the youthful power still very noticeable at just three years of age. Tannins are firm with a crumbly chalk texture, fruit flavours of berries and plum reflect the bouquet, there’s also a gun flint, some tobacco, dried herb and earthy quality adding complexity and breadth on the palate. Well made and needing cellar time to fully integrate. Best drinking from 2024 through 2030+.
