Matchbook Estate Old Head Chardonnay 2019, Dunnigan Hills, California, USA
I first tasted this wine in December 2020 - notes below with score.
Tasted again today - July 24th, 2021.
Aromas and flavours are almost exactly the same with the change being a more integrated wine demonstrating that time will benefit this wine if stored properly. Aromas and flavours of apples, citrus fruits and peaches. There’s still a nutty complexity and mild lees residue before the unmistakable flavours of wood power through the palate. Still weight and creamy with warming alcohol. Well made and ready to drink from purchase and through 2023.

There’s no mistaking the nutty, creamy vanilla rich bouquet with aromas of toasty wood and cashew nut, roasted peach and baked vanilla custard. Full-bodied, creamy texture with flavours of stone fruits, burnt butter, nut and baking spices on the palate. Balanced and well made, ready to enjoy from today and through 2022.
