Huchet Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay
A striking bouquet with power and a core of fruit, subtly and glamor. A deep core of dark red berry fruits with blackberry, plum and boysenberry. Licorice and sweet tobacco, roasted bell-pepper and compressed violets. There’s no mistaking the oak - with power and concentration, dark spices, a moment of marmite and sweetness. On the palate - very youthful, tense, powerful, ripe and distinctive. Bold tannins are ripe, layering in texture and tension. Equally forceful acidity carries the core of fruit throughout the palate along with iron and pencil lead. Not yet balanced, but a lengthy finish nonetheless. A wine for the cellar. Best drinking from 2025 through 2040+.
