Waiparore Single Vineyard Wines from the Tutukaka Coast - Tasted and Rated
Waiparore Single Vineyard Rosé 2020, Tutukaka Coast, Northland
Crafted using Syrah and Merlot this wine’s bouquet is bold and expressive with aromas of plums and guava, preserved cherry and quietly spoken red currant. There’s a delicate strawberry flower and clay-like mineral note. Satin texture on the palate with contrasting acidity adding a refreshing lift. Flavours on the palate reflect the nose along the earthy mineral layer. Moderate length, balanced, well made and ready to enjoy upon purchase and through 2022.

Waiparore Single Vineyard Pinot Gris 2020, Tutukaka Coast, Northland
Fruity, varietal and enticing bouquet with an Alsace-like weight and spice drive. Flavours on the palate include red and yellow apple, pear and a touch of quince. Acidity, fruit spices and palate phenolics add texture, length and mouthfeel with contrasting fruit flavours. Dry on the finish with warming alcohol and a decent fruit core. Lengthy, balanced and well made. Best drinking from today and through 2023.

Waiparore Single Vineyard Chardonnay, Tutukaka Coast, Northland
Complex, varietal and barrel spice driven bouquet. Flavours of grapefruit and quince, lemon and sea-salt, mineral, nut and baking spices then white fleshed stone fruit suggestions. Plenty of weight and mouthfeel from the fruit, medium+ acidity and mild toasty barrel and leesy complexity. Youthful, dry and still developing. A wine to watch. Well made. Best drink from mid to late 2022 and through 2027+.

Waiparore Single Vineyard Syrah Dessert Strohwein 2020, Tutukaka Coast, Northland
This is a Strohwein expression where the grapes are partially and naturally dehydrated then pressed and fermented. The resulting wine has a powerful bouquet that reminds me of France and Italy with its curvaceous and seductive aromas of red berries and brown sugar and black spices. Very creamy, sweet and delicious on the palate with flavours of plums and raspberries, black currant and raisin. Lower alcohol allows the core of fruit to dominate with some contrasting acidity. A lovely wine. Drink upon purchase and through 2028+
