Pegasus Bay Prima Donna Pinot Noir 2017, Waipara Valley

Complex and detailed bouquet with layers of ripe red berry fruits and spiced Doris plum, baking spice and toasty wood combinations, there’s also a fine savoury dried herb scent adding enticement and intrigue. As the wine opens up in glass a sense of earth, place and mineral begin to emerge. Tense and dry on the palate with a core of fruit flavours that mirror the bouquet. No mistaking the firm tannins and acid line forming foundation for the fruit and ageing with contrasting flavours of berries and plum then spices of wood. There’s plenty of development time ahead for this wine, it delicious now, but will continue to age and develop if cellared correctly. Best drinking likely from 2023 through 2030+.
