Colombo Chardonnay 2019, Martinborough
Plenty to engage the palate with this wine - aromas of red apples and pears, white fleshed stone fruits and sweet citrus. There’s a distinctive flinty, slightly funky edge with a leesy oaky charm that adds complexity plus the mineral notes of stone and chalk add breadth. On the palate - plenty of weight with a gentle warmth from the alcohol, tension from the oak and citrus flavours as well as a youthful energy and shine with medium+ acidity. With the 100% barrel ferment as part of the wine-making technique there’s a bold texture and fine satin creaminess, but it’s well balanced and well made, still youthful and will cellar well for a couple more years. Best drinking from late 2021 through 2025+.
