Black Estate Damsteep Pinot Noir 2018, North Canterbury

A complex and engaging bouquet with a savoury and mineral core then aromas of red currant and plums, cherry and fine spiced wood suggestions. There’s also a pretty floral moment adding the finesse and charm that Pinot Noir likes to show-off when harnessed by site and winemaker. On the palate - tense, dry, youthful and vividly real. Flavours reflect the nose highlighted by firm ripe tannins and medium+ acidity then a savoury natural ferment core. Nice lengthy finish, but make no mistake this is a young wine needing some integration time. Best drinking from mid 2022 through 2028..
