Greystone Erin's Chardonnay 2018, Waipara Valley, North Canterbury

I tried this wine over three days to really get a sense of what the style and expression is all about. On day three the wine shows best - aromas of white flowers and grapefruit, honeysuckle, a soft silty minerality, baked apple and fresh peach then a soft leesy flinty core. On the palate - there’s an immediate nutty, baked stone fruit flavour with vanilla and toasty wood layer. Fine tannins, medium+ acidity and a core of fruit and floral flavours. A lovely balanced wine (on day 3) with a long fine finish. Best drinking - based on the 3 days of tasting - is late 2021 through 2026+.
