Matt Connell Wines Rendition Pinot Noir 2019, Central Otago
Day 1: Youthful, fresh and ripe bouquet with fruit scents of dried raspberry and cherry; mineral and vineyard scents of crushed stone and savoury dried herb moments; then mild toasty spicy oak. Complex yet young, pure yet curious. On the palate - very youthful, warm, fruity, tense and varietal. Flavours of red berries, red plum, cherry then tannins and acidity. Tannins are firm with oak and fruit contributions, acidity is medium+ an the core is varietal. There’s a very nice seam of purity and and elegance with a floral and mineral tease that will develop as this wine takes on more bottle-age and is allowed to come into a state of harmony. Lengthy finish and well made. Best drinking from early 2022 through 2026.

Very Good
Day 2: Still youthful, showcasing all the fruits and flavours noted yesterday, but also showing a little more evenness and length, the tannins are a little less angular and more harmonised with the core of fruit - which remain strong; The length and finish also remain persistent while a savoury complexity begins to emerge adding more to the overall flavours and mouth feel. Overall still a lovely wine.
