Askerne Reserve Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc 2019, Hawkes Bay
A lovely intensity and complexity with dark fruit aromas of blackberry and Doris plums, licorice and olive, smoky oak with toasty clove and vanilla scents. On the palate - firm, youthful, tense, dry and loaded with a core of fruit and roasted bell-pepper. There’s a hay, tobacco and cigar note - which I like - adding complexity and breadth then flavours of dark fruits that reflect the bouquet. Firms tannins, medium+ acidity, firm textures, vibrant and youthful. Should find its happy spot by early 2022 so suggested drinking from then and through 2028.
