Black Peak Riesling 2016 Wanaka

A very aromatic almost intense bouquet of Riesling with aromas of green apple and lemon-lime, apple blossoms, candied citrus peel and suggestions of tangerine. A very youthful expression on the palate with flavours that reflect the green skin of Granny-Smith and candied citrus peel highlighted by a youthful acid line, light-weight and crunchy freshness. While the wine is off-dry when it hits the palate the contrast of acidity and core of fruits lead the palate through flavours and textures through to a just dry finish. Overall a well made example, still ageing and developing. Drink now and through 2026+.

Black Peak Riesling 2017 Wanaka

Aromatic, steely and youthful bouquet. Very floral and mineral laden with aromas of white blossoms, apples, ripe yellow citrus and lemon-grass. off-dry as the wine hits the palate then immediately crisp, and fresh with a youthful high acid line leading to a dry-ish finish. The core of fruit is led by fresh green apple then just ripe mandarin flavours. The slow release of blossom, mineral and lemon-grass seem to highlight a suggestion of fresh white pineapple. Very youthful and set to age for some years to come. Well made. Best drinking from 2021 through 2027+.

Black Peak Chardonnay 2017 Dartmoor, Hawkes Bay

Fruity, oaky, nutty and quite intense. Also very youthful with a new oak layer of blonde oak, vanilla scented wood then roasted yellow stone-fruits, red apple and a hint of baking spice. Dry, tense, youthful, peach and oaky. Flavours reflect the bouquet with plenty of oak, fruit, vanilla wood flavours, some wood tannins and medium+ acidity. Almost full-bodied, nutty and tense. A wine requiring cellar time to being all the layers into harmony - I’m sure this will happen - to allow the true voice of the wine to show. Decant for service with food with best drinking from early 2021 through 2026.

Black Peak Pinot Noir 2016 Central Otago

Varietal, fruity, oaky and packed with aromas of plums and red cherry, soft dried herb and brown spiced toasty oak. Dry, fruity, oaky and layered. Medium+ tannins and acidity with a core of red berries, plums, English tea and clove flavours of toasty oak. Quite lengthy, but also quite youthful - so - decant for service and be sure to select the right high protein food. Best kept in the cellar till late 2020 then enjoy through 2024+. A very nice wine that simply needs time.

Black Peak Pinot Noir 2017 Central Otago

Vibrant, very fruity and intense with aromas of spiced plum and dark cherry, some Xmas spice moments then vanilla and sweet toasty oak. Dry, firm and youthful on the palate - tense chalky tannins, medium+ acidity, firm oaky flavours and a core of fruit. A very youthful wine needing a lot more time in cellar to harmonise together the components of tannin, fruit and oak. The wine does have the right flavour and texture package overall so I am confident it with come together nicely in 2021 and through 2026.
