Zephyr
Zephyr Riesling 2019 Marlborough
An enticing, varietal and engaging bouquet of Riesling with aromas and flavours of lime flower and sweet mandarin, lemon and grapefruit pith, honeysuckle and a touch of elder-flower. Great texture on the palate with an abundance of acidity contrasted by a core of fruit, long finish and building complexity as the wine opens up in glass. This is a very good example of Riesling. Drink or cellar. Best from today and through 2026. 93 points
Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2019 Marlborough
A wine that takes a few moments to open up in the glass - when it does it reveals an interesting package of aromas and flavours. Aromas of seeds and white spice, white tropical fruits, golden kiwi-fruit and stony mineral, almost salty layers. A refreshing texture with a core of new fruits, backbone of acidity, lengthy finish with an enticing textured complexity. A solid, well made wine. Great drinking now and through 2021. 92 Points
Zephyr Gewurztraminer 2019 Marlborough
A complex, intriguing and seductive bouquet with aromas of sweet angelica, fragrant spices, citrus, white and yellow orchard fruits and flowers. These aromas repeat on the palate as flavours contrasted by a youthful acid line, great balance and length. Always one of my favourite Gewurztraminer wines - Ben has nailed it once again. Great balance, long fine finish and enticing complexity. 94 points
Zephyr Chardonnay 2017 Marlborough
This wine has a great bouquet with aromas that first reveal their shape and form then slowly layer in white and yellow orchard fruits, some barrel spices and fine oak flavours. On the palate the wine is dry with contrasting fruit and oak flavours layered in, vibrato, plenty of energy with palate textures, a distinctive saline, flinty layer and long finish. The complexity will continue to build over time. Balanced and very well made. Drink now and through 2024. 95 Points
Zephyr Pinot Noir 2018 Marlborough
Made with fruit from the Southern Valleys - this is an example of a wine that captures the senses immediately with aromas of bright, light red fruits, a floral layer and core of pinosity. On the palate there’s flavours that reflect the nose, a quiet finesse with a delicate and lighter attack. The finish is plush and fine with red fruits of plum and strawberry, flowers and spice. Balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2022. 92 points
Winemaker - Ben Glover - has a wine range called ‘Mr. Glover’ I tasted his 2018 Pinot Noir - it has a purity of fruit core, it is floral and fragrant. Flavours of light red fruits, a fine gravel soil layer, crushed minerals and layers of tannins. A lovely wine with balance, plenty of length and complexity. Youthful still, but worth your investigation. 95 Points.
