Top Wines Tasted 2023

Cam Douglas MS Top Wines 2023

2023 was a record year for the number of wines I tasted, evaluated, and judged. These included Panel Chair for the New Zealand entries at the Decanter World Wine Awards, Chair for the Canberra International Riesling Challenge, Selector for the Hawkes Bay Chardonnay Challenge, various local wine shows around New Zealand, various online and print publications including Decanter and MiNDFOOD, multiple wine tasting events around Aotearoa New Zealand, and my own website review business site at CamDouglasMS.com, many hundreds of wines have touched my palate.

The selection below is mostly from evaluations posted to my website, though many wines have been tasted on other occasions as well.

Great wine should be acknowledged so the list is the list.

If you are a producer of any wine listed and would like to use the Top Wine 2023 digital sticker, please email me and I would be delighted to share this with you.

There is no order to the wines listed, congratulations and warmest regards to all producers mentioned.

Bottled Water

Tasting wine requires a cleansed palate best achieved with excellent water. Where possible when tasting wine I cleanse my palate with low dissolved solids mineral water. The best in New Zealand for the last 20 years has been Antipodes Water.

More recently I have also been enjoying and using Fleck Water

  • Antipodes Water, Whakatane – 95 Points

  • Fleck Water, Central Otago – 94 Points
