Visiting Hawkes Bay?
Hawkes Bay is a rather fantastic place to visit. It’s wine history alone is 160 years young and being New Zealand’s second largest wine region it has an abundance of cellar doors, winery tours and tasting opportunities. Many of the best dining rooms in Hastings, Havelock North, Taradale and Napier feature local wine.
Three of my favourite restaurants are: Pacifica, Bistronomy and Mr Ds.
In addition to the wine sector there are some great cafes, coffee stops and art deco architecture sights to take in. Getting around is easier if you have your own car, but there are some great wine tour companies to engage if your prefer. Wine cycle trails are a heap of fun and highly recommended. A word of caution though - be very very careful of road traffic - some drivers are a bit quick on the open roads - so keep well left when on or near the roads - especially the back country roads.
